Resource: Market-Based Solutions to Poverty in Africa
A report released by the Monitor Group last year shows conclusively that market-based programs such as Lighting Africa make a significant difference in the fight against poverty by sustainably delivering social impact at scale.
The report Promise and Progress: Market-Based Solutions to Poverty in Africa, is arguably one of the most comprehensive analyses of financially sustainable enterprises that seek to tackle poverty.
It was the result of a 16-month research project that examined 439 enterprises, across 14 sectors in nine African countries, which use market mechanisms to improve the lives and livelihoods of people living at the bottom of the pyramid.
Promise and Progress discusses implications of the research findings for leaders of market-based projects, businesses that seek to engage low-income people as customers or suppliers; impact investors, donors and philanthropists, and governments.
