Lighting Global is the World Bank Group’s platform to support sustainable growth of the international off-grid solar market as a means of rapidly increasing energy access to the one billion people without grid electricity. Through Lighting Global, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the World Bank work with the Global Off-Grid Lighting Association (GOGLA), manufacturers, distributors, and other development partners to develop the modern off-grid energy market. The Lighting Global program supports market development by working with private companies to lower first-mover risk and mobilize private sector investment through market intelligence, quality assurance, business support services and consumer education.
Lighting Global II is offering an internship position based out of either Shenzhen or Hong Kong for an eligible applicant to support the program team with research, operational, implementation and administration support, related to Lighting Global program activities, and events.The intern will serve as a research assistant to the Lighting Global China Outreach Consultant. S/he will also provide occasional assistance to other the teams. Please see detailed tasks below.
Job Title: Internship Position for Lighting Global, Location: Shenzhen/Hong Kong
Department: Lighting Global within IFC Lighting and Off-Grid Advisory (CNGPL)
Duties and Responsibilities:The main responsibilities will include the following:

  • Serve as research assistant to the Lighting Global team, which entails:
    • Assisting the China Outreach Consultant based in Shenzhen;
    • Research and compilation of list of Chinese companies working in the photovoltaic industry relevant to Lighting Global.
    • Assist the LG program in undertaking high level analysis from the data/insights gathered in China and presenting this in excel or power point presentations
    • Reading and summarizing assigned impact evaluation articles, working papers or reports (in Mandarin and English);
    • Attend seminars and other events and write dissemination notes;
    • Conducting literature searches, creating annotated bibliographies, etc.;
    • Research relevant reports pertaining the new productive use products included in Lighting Global II;
  • Provide communications assistance to the Lighting Global team, which entails:
    • Coordinating logistical or other assistance for Lighting Global events upon request, including keeping track of all the events in the off-grid solar sector and informing the LGII team members;
    • Developing relevant social media and web content for Lighting Global Chinese platforms, including occasional engagement with online audiences;
    • Support preparation of presentations as requested (both in English and Mandarin);
    • Translate and or support the Lighting Global team with documents and tasks in Mandarin.

Selection criteria:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree (or pursuing) in business and/or finance or related field preferred;
  • Knowledge of spoken and written Mandarin language (required)
  • Fluency in written and spoken English with analytical writing skills in English (required);
  • Prior knowledge on off-grid solar business and industry;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Experience working on different IT systems and an affinity for technology; familiarity with WeChat and related Chinese platforms required;
  • Proven ability to work in an international environment;
  • Graphic and web design skills a plus but not mandatory;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with internal/external clients and promote collaboration in a multi-cultural environment.

选择标准

  • 必须拥有学士学位。商业和/或金融或相关领域的硕士学位（或在读）优先考虑；
  • 中文普通话及写作能力（必须）；
  • 流利的英语口语和写作能力，具有英语分析写作技能（必须）；
  • 了解离网太阳能业务和工业知识；
  • 具有独立工作能力，仅需极少指导监督；
  • 在不同IT系统上工作的经验和对技术的热爱；熟悉微信及相关中文平台；
  • 在国际环境中工作的能力；
  • 图形和网页设计技能，但非必须；
  • 良好的人际交往能力以及与内部/外部客户有效合作、促进多元文化环境下合作的能力。
